The development, manufacture and marketing of natural medicines was a declared objective of Rottapharm | Madaus from the outset. The company "Dr. Madaus & Co." was founded in 1919, and soon became known among doctors, natural healers and patients, because all important medicinal specialities were manufactured from fresh plant material.
The successes of these early years encouraged the founders, working in the 'Biological Institute Dr. Madaus' to commence phytochemical and pharmacological research work with the objective of identifying defined plant constituents relevant to the effects of the plant. Rottapharm | Madaus thereby gave phytotherapy a new and crucial quality standard, and paved the way to rational therapy.
The next major step was the development of isolated individual substances and their marketing under the motto “medicines from natural sources”. Numerous original and trend-setting products such as “Reparil” and “Legalon SIL” stem from this time. With their active substances and the products based upon them, Rottapharm | Madaus continuously built a position in the German market and in the export trade. From the modest beginnings of the early years, Rottapharm | Madaus sucessfully achieved markets and close connections throughout the whole world.
Nowadays the central focus of the company is located in the realm of “Natural Prevention”. The research results derived from the scientific approach over several decades form the basis for the production of modern phytopreparations which are gentle in action, economical and conform to drug safety regulations.
